미국 아이오와 작가 워크숍을 졸업하고 성인 소설 『폭우의 여름 Flood Summer』을 출간했다. 어느날 식당으로 가던 도중에 문득 새로운 작품에 관한 아이디어가 떠올랐고 식당에 도착할 즈음에 이 아이디어에 근거해서 어린이 소설을 써야겠다고 결심했다. 그것이 바로 『베네딕트 비밀클럽 The Mysterious Benedict Society』으로, 그의 첫 번째 어린이 소설이다. 이 책은 영국, 독일, 일본, 러시아, 이탈리아 등에서도 출간될 만큼 큰 성공을 거두었고, 속편 『베네딕트 비밀클럽의 위험천만한 여행
The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey』이 출간되기도 했다. 현재 부인과 두 아들과 함께 미국 아칸소 주 리틀록에서 살고 있다. Trenton Lee Stewart, graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and author of the adult novel Flood Summer, lives in Arkansas with his wife and two sons. This is his debut children's novel.
